Seven Stones Winery

Claim to fame: Appropriately enough, Seven Stones has a rock solid reputation for making bold, delicious Bordeaux-style blends. Its stellar 2006 Meritage was one of only 9 finalists for "Wine of the Year" at the Canadian Wine Awards. With cred like that, it’s no wonder the Similkameen Valley is becoming the next big thing in the Canadian wine world.

George Hanson is at the helm of Seven Stones, in a dual role as proprietor and winemaker. He is particularly proud that all of his wines are made from grapes that are estate-grown on the winery’s 20 picturesque acres.

Let the record show that although George makes a very tasty Chard and a scrumptious Pinot Noir rosé, his real passion is for the big, bold reds. Preferably paired with romantic dinners, roaring fires, and/or chocolate. (Do we need to add that we are utterly smitten!)

Fun facts:

Winery’s first vintage: 2003

First love: Fairview Cellars Cabernet Franc

Winery dog: Danny

Fave charity: SPCA

“Must try” new releases: Late Harvest Merlot and a stand-alone Petit Verdot!

The winery and its scenic picnic site are open from 10:30-5:30 every day from May 1 to October 31. Ask about tours, shipping, and upcoming events (like the vertical Chardonnay tasting coming this fall).

But wait, there’s more! Seven Stones’ tasting room is chock-a-block with bling. Our heart was completely aflutter at the many, many sparkly trinkets! Seriously: A shop that’s full of delicious wines AND fabulous baubles?! Swooooooon!
